Crazy Week #1 Concludes
Crazy week started off on Monday with another strong

Emma Bailey Band on Friday
outing for the Big Red crew at the Potomac Nationals’ Pfitzner Stadium in the opening game of a seven game home stand. As always, Monday is Dollar Day with $1 tickets and $1 dogs. While we start off a little slow as everyone is grabbing the dogs, by 20 minutes before game time, Peggy and I start rolling and stay busy all night.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday weren’t as busy partially due to the pesky showers that kept hitting just before or around gates open. Mid week games never are as busy as Monday and weekends, but at least I covered my expenses plus a little.

Harmonica Solo from Jack with Emma Bailey Band
After the game Thursday night, I started back to the farm to pick up Big Red and was blocked by a really bad wreck on Rte 28 when a lady tried to drive her car up a tree. Unfortunately, she was trapped inside and the road was blocked for 90 minutes. She was OK with only minor injuries, but it sure put a delay in my schedule as I didn’t get home until after 3 AM.
Friday morning, I drove Big Red to Peggy’s in Harrisonburg, picked her up and drove to Woodbridge for game 5 of the home stand.
And, it was a major disappointment as we got a pretty hard shower just before the game and it killed the crowd. That was too bad as the Emma Bailey Band was performing for the second time this year and they are fabulous. At least I spent the hour before the game patting my foot and dancing while pouring funnel cakes.

After the game, I drove back to Harrisonburg and early Saturday morning, moved Big Red to the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Picnic at Grand Caverns in Grottoes. After setting up, I met Chuck and Ryan and drove back to Woodbridge for Game 6.
Tank, his girl friend, Laura and Peggy handled the picnic and did 850 mini funnel cakes from noon till 5 pm. It was Laura’s first event on the Big Red Crew and according to both Peggy and Tank, she was fabulous. Good training as she’ll be working with Tank and the boys for Liberty football games this fall.

Sister, Chuck and Ryan Ready for Saturday Night
Meanwhile, about 15 minutes after the gates opened for Saturday night’s game, it poured. A really bad storm that lasted about 30 minutes. I thought for sure the night would be ruined like it was Friday night. But, I was totally wrong.
The Badrats had just started their concert when the rains came and they got rained out. They are a young rock band, and a little too loud for my taste, but I hate to see all the effort of setting up, tuning up and practicing go to waste. I think they played three songs.

Badrats Before the Rains Came
After the rains and a slight delay in starting the game, we got slammed and it was a super game. My sister, Jean, who flew in from Chicago just before the game, handled the front, Ryan and Chuck handled the lemonade and sugaring the funnel cakes, and I cooked. Great night, and a really smooth night.
I got to the Pfitz Sunday morning and again it was pouring. Only this time, the game was postponed until later in August. Drove back to Grottoes, picked up Big Red and am back at the farm for a couple of days.
This week is Crazy Week #2, only it is a little shorter. A four game home stand opens on Thursday and after the game Friday, I drive back to the farm to get ready for an American Cancer Society Event at Rebec Winery in Amherst County on Saturday. After that ends, I drive back to Woodbridge for Sundays game. Tank, Peggy, Chuck and Ryan will be handling the game Saturday night including a couple thousand scouts that will be in attendance.
Hopefully, we’ll be out of this silly rain pattern that hampered things this week.
